Your journey begins with a morning transfer from Moshi to Marangu Gate for park registration and climber briefing. After formalities, you step onto the trail and begin ascending through dense tropical rainforest.
The forest is rich in birdlife and primates, including blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The trail is well-defined and gradually climbs beneath a canopy of towering trees draped in moss.
By afternoon, you arrive at Mandara Hut a collection of charming A-frame wooden huts set in a forest clearing. If energy permits, an optional short walk to Maundi Crater offers beautiful views toward Kenya and the surrounding plains.

After breakfast, the trail leaves the rainforest and enters open heathland. Vegetation shifts dramatically giant heathers, lobelias, and expansive moorland landscapes begin to define the scenery.
As you gain altitude, the views widen. On clear days, Kibo and Mawenzi peaks emerge ahead, revealing the dramatic volcanic structure of Kilimanjaro.
You arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon, where the air is noticeably cooler and the mountain environment more rugged.

This essential acclimatization day increases your chances of reaching the summit successfully. After breakfast, you hike toward Mawenzi Ridge, ascending gradually to approximately 4,400m.
The terrain becomes rockier and more dramatic, offering spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the jagged spires of Mawenzi. After spending time at higher altitude, you descend back to Horombo Hut for rest and recovery.
The afternoon is reserved for hydration, relaxation, and preparation for the next stage of the climb.

Today you cross the dramatic “Saddle,” a vast alpine desert plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape becomes stark and lunar-like, with minimal vegetation and wide open views.
The steady ascent leads to Kibo Hut, located at the base of the Kibo crater wall. Upon arrival, you rest, hydrate, and enjoy an early dinner. A full briefing prepares you for the midnight summit attempt

Your summit ascent begins around midnight under the stars. The climb is steady and demanding, progressing through scree slopes to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim.
From there, you continue along the rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is a powerful and emotional achievement.
After photographs and celebration, you descend carefully back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and meal before continuing down to Horombo Hut for your final mountain overnight.

Your final descent retraces the trail through moorland and back into lush rainforest. The air grows warmer as you approach Marangu Gate.
