Today is an important acclimatization day. The route turns east toward a semi-desert alpine landscape.
After about 5 hours of trekking, reach Lava Tower at 4,630m. This is the highest point so far and many climbers begin to feel the effects of altitude.
After lunch near Lava Tower, descend approximately 2 hours to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy improves acclimatization.
Barranco Camp lies beneath the impressive Great Barranco Wall, offering stunning sunset views.
