This five-day safari is specially designed to follow the spectacular Great Migration calving season in the southern plains of the Serengeti. From January to March, thousands of wildebeest gather in the nutrient-rich short grass plains to give birth, attracting intense predator activity and unforgettable wildlife drama.
This journey combines the raw beauty of the Southern Serengeti, the classic wildlife concentrations of Central Serengeti, and the extraordinary natural amphitheater of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Afternoon game drive in Southern Serengeti
Migration herd tracking
Calving season wildlife viewing
Your journey begins with an early departure from Arusha, driving through the scenic highlands and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area en route to the southern plains of the Serengeti National Park.
By afternoon, you arrive in the Ndutu region, the heart of the calving season. Between January and March, this area becomes a cradle of life, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest gather to give birth.
Game drives upon arrival may reveal:
Vast herds of wildebeest and zebras spread across endless plains
Newborn calves taking their first steps
Cheetahs scanning the horizon
Lions following the migration herds
Hyenas and jackals drawn to the abundance
The open short-grass plains provide exceptional visibility, making predator-prey interactions more frequent and dramatic.

Spend a full day exploring the Ndutu plains within the southern Serengeti ecosystem.

Wildlife encounters may include:
Wildebeest giving birth
Cheetahs hunting in open plains
Lions with cubs
Hyenas patrolling migration herds
Large flocks of vultures circling overhead
Your guide will strategically track herd movements and predator activity to maximize sightings. The open landscape allows for extended observation and photography.

Predator tracking in central Serengeti
After a morning game drive in the southern plains, begin your journey north toward the central region of Serengeti National Park, specifically the Seronera Valley.
The drive itself is a game drive, offering continuous wildlife sightings across varied terrain from short-grass plains to rocky outcrops (kopjes).
Central Serengeti is known for:
High density of resident predators
Lions resting on kopjes
Leopards in acacia trees
Cheetahs in open savannah
Large hippo pools in the Seronera River
Arrive in the afternoon and continue with a game drive before sunset.

Spend a full day exploring the wildlife-rich Seronera region.
Unlike the seasonal migration in the south, central Serengeti supports year-round wildlife due to permanent water sources. This makes it one of the best areas for predator sightings.
Wildlife highlights may include:
Large lion prides
Leopards resting in sausage trees
Cheetahs hunting gazelles
Elephants moving across open plains
Hippos in river pools
Crocodiles along riverbanks
You may choose a full-day game drive with picnic lunch or split morning and afternoon drives for a relaxed pace.
